Can I Pay My Taxes Online?: IRS Online Payment Options

Writing and mailing a check to pay bills is becoming a phenomenon of the past. Today, most individuals and businesses opt for the ease of making payments online. Like most vendors, the IRS has made the switch and is now accepting online payments. Whether you

are on a payment plan or would like to pay your tax liability in full, you can now conveniently make the payment from your smartphone or computer. You can either choose “Direct Pay,” or make a payment by debit or credit card.

IRS Direct Pay is using your bank account to pay your taxes. Direct Pay is available for all individual (personal) tax liabilities. There is no cost associated with this service and you can easily track your payment by signing up for email notifications. The email notification will contain a confirmation number that you can use to access information regarding your payment. You can also use the confirmation number to either modify or cancel a scheduled payment.

Tax payments can as well be made via debit or credit card. This option is available for individual and business taxpayers. However, the IRS does use outside payment processors to process card payments. There are several processors available on the IRS website; and, the fees differ based on the type of card and the processor used. Moreover, if you pay with your card the payment cannot be modified or canceled.

If you are planning to make a payment to the IRS, please choose the option that is best for you. For more information please feel free to contact our office.
